How to monitor windows client in cacti?

Cacti is a observance / monitoring tool from that Infrastructure resources is monitored like (Windows machines, UNIX operating system machines, switch, Routers and SNMP based devices).

Following services and resources is monitored.
Ex : Disk , Memory, CPU , Network Interfaces.

SNMP installation and configuration guide have prepared for following platform.

Windows Client IP  : 192.168.1.23
OS                         : Windows 7 32bit
SNMP community  : solutions@ (Read only)

Cacti Server IP      : 192.168.0.161
Cacti URL              : http://192.168.0.161/cacti

Steps :

Step : 1  Install and configure SNMP on Windows

Step : 2  Add Windows client in cacti

Step : 3  Add Graph for Windows client  under Graph tree structure in cacti

Let us see the steps in Details :

Step : 1  Install and configure SNMP on Windows 7

SNMP enabled resources can be monitored using tools like Nagios , cacti & mrtg .SNMP listens on UDP protocol (port: 161& 162).

To configure SNMP services first you need to follow below steps:

1.1 Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features ->Turn Windows Features on and off .

Select -> SNMP and WMI SNMP Provider -> OK

1.2. Go to START -> COMPUTER -> right click and select -> MANAGE -> SERVICES AND APPLICATION -> SERVICES.

1.3 In the services search for SNMP service and double click on it to open the properties.

1.4 There will be a pop-up window for properties in GENERAL start SNMP and go to -> Log On select check box -> Allow services to interface with desktop.

1.5 Provide contact and location as per your requirement.

1.6 Add community name and IP address of monitoring server.

1.7 Provide security options

Step : 2  Add Windows client in cacti

Enter at URL  http://localhost/cacti

Console – > Devices -> Add

Provide all host details including SNMP .

Click on Save Button

Step : 3  Add Graph for Windows client  under Graph / tree structure in cacti

3.1 Console -> New Graphs -> Host: Select newly create host – > Graph Types : All -> select all service to monitor them

3.2 Console -> Graph Tree ->  Select the Tree from Graph Trees -> Add.

If you got Errors like :

timzezone settings error in cacti logs, modify time zone settings in  /etc/php.ini

date.timezone = Asia/Calcutta

Save & Exit (:wq!)

#service httpd restart
