Installation And Configuration of VSFTP

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol that is used to transfer files from one host to another host over a TCP-based network, such as the Internet. VSFTPD is nothing but the Very Secure FTP Daemon which is a GPL licensed FTP server for UNIX like systems. It supports to IPv6 and SSL. It is secure, extremely fast and stable. VSFTPD is a well solution which supports virtual users with PAM (pluggable authentication modules). We are going to discuss about the installation and configuration of VSFTPD. By using the following steps.

Steps :

Step 1 : Install VSFPTD and FTP

Step 2 : Configure VSFTPD

Step 3 : Restart the VSFTPD service

Step 4 : Add and Set  password for ftp user

Step 5 :  Connect to FTP

Let us see the steps in Details :

Step 1 : Install VSFPTD and FTP

#yum install vsftpd

#yum install ftp

Step 2 : Configure VSFTPD

For configuration we have to make some changes in vsftpd.conf file

# cp /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf  /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf.original

#vi  /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf

Uncomment and change the following status as :

anonymous_enable=NO

local_enable=YES

chroot_local_user=YES

Step 3 : Restart the VSFTPD service

#service vsftpd restart

#chkconfig vsftpd on

Step 4 : Add and Set  password for ftp user

#useradd experts1    //experts is a user_name

#passwd experts1  

Changing password for user experts.

New password:

Retype new password:

passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.

#service vsftpd restart

Step 5 :  Connect to FTP

#ftp demo.com     // can connect by providing domain name

Or

#ftp 192.168.0.10               //can connect by providing ip address
