How to restore the Linux Root Password

In most cases the administrator forgets the root  password , below steps  will guide  you to reset root  password.
Let us see the steps one by one:

Step : 1  Boot the Linux Box in single user mode (level-1)

Step : 2  Use the down arrow key to select key for select the boot menu which you want to modify.

Step : 3  Use arrow keys to navigate the cursor on the KERNEL

Step : 4  Press “e” to edit the boot loader entry.

Step : 5  At end of  line type -s

Step : 6  Press Esc key to go back to menu

Step : 7  Press “b” to boot the system in single user mode i.e Level 1

Let us see the Steps in Details :-

Step : 1  Boot the Linux Box in single user mode (level-1)

Make this boot level as 1

Step :2  Use the down arrow key to select key for select the boot menu which you want to modify.

Press down arrow key to select boot menu

Step : 3  Use arrow keys to navigate the cursor on the KERNEL

Step : 4  Press “e” to edit the boot loader entry.

Step : 5  At end of  line type -s

Step : 6  Press Esc key to go back to menu

Step : 7  Press “b” to boot the system in single user mode i.e Level 1

Set the password by using command :

# passwd

Then restart Linux Machine By using  command :

#init 3
